Directions following a Crown Prep with a temporary

Your tooth may be sensitive with your temporary crown on. Avoid irritants such as cold, hot and sweet around the tooth.

Your gum tissues may be irritated for several days after appointment. You can rinse with warm salt water (a tablespoon of salt in a cup of warm water) for a couple days after your appointment. If problem persists, please call our office.

Do not chew anything hard, sticky or chewy while wearing a temporary. Try to chew on opposite side of your mouth. Stay away from any extreme hot or cold.

If the temporary crown breaks or falls off, it is not an emergency, however we do not want the temporary crown off for more than a couple days becasue the tooth can shift and move and the permanent one may not fit. Please call our office if this happens and we will get you in as soon as possible to recement or make a new temporary crown.

When flossing, floss in between then pull through gently. Be very gentle with your toothbrush.

Do come back for your scheduled appointment for your crown seat. Temporary crowns can chip and break over time, leaving the tooth susceptible to breaking, drifting or even decaying quicker.

When your permanent crown comes in we will try it in and take a film to make sure the crown fits on the tooth properly. At times, we may need to adjust both the new crown and the tooth above or below the new crown to make your bite comfortable. Occasionally, if a crown does not fit, it may have to be sent back to the lab.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR YOU ARE EXPERIENCE ANY THROBBING OR SHARP PAIN PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE @ 517-223-3779.
